ohtheplacesSometimes I think all Dr Seuss books should be compulsory reading for anyone in the workplace. As a child I didn’t see the wisdom in his stories – just the magic. Now that I am an adult I can see so much that I need to remember.

These are some of my favourite quotes from Dr Seuss. I hope they help you with your focus as much as they help me.

“Today I shall behave, as if this is the day I will be remembered.”

The likelihood is high that if we behave this way we really will be remembered. Treat yourself with the respect you deserve and rise above the petty episodes around you.

“Why fit in when you were born to stand out?”

This is the perfect follow on from the first quote. There are too many copycat people out there. You do not have to be one of them. You were born unique so stay that way.

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”

If you are a unique individual, born to stand out, surely it makes sense to carve your own path instead of following the masses. Your life, your career, your future; they are all in your hands. No one else should determine their outcome.

“Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!”

He has such a way with words, doesn’t he? It’s so easy to fall into bad habits and that includes poor thinking habits. Sometimes it’s easier not to think at all, isn’t it? Yet what you must be missing! Don’t limit your options – explore them. Use your imagination. Be inventive. ALLOW yourself to think differently.

“You’ll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut.”

I think this is Dr Seuss’ way of telling us to live in the moment. When our days are routine we do tend to stop looking at them. That’s how the days pass without end and they blur into each other. Imagine what we might see if we opened our eyes and joined in the experience of life.

“So be sure when you step, Step with care and great tact. And remember that life’s A Great Balancing Act. And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed).”

I don’t think that quote needs any explanation, do you?

Grab your favourite Dr Seuss book and read it again with your adult mind and your adult heart. Enjoy it.

30-Dr_-Seuss-Quotes-that-Can-Change-Your-Life-Infographic1The older I get the more wisdom I read in Dr Seuss books. Those funny, quirky tales designed for children really pack a lot of punch for adults, too.

• Only you can control your future.
• Teeth are always in style.
• Today I shall behave as if this is the day I will be remembered.

They are just three of the pearls of wisdom Dr Seuss wrote into his magical stories.

Today there is not a lot I need to say to you because Dr Seuss has said it all for me. Have a look through these quotes and see the wisdom in them. There will be a quote that really resonates with you. Remember it and follow it.

Me? My quote is “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”

That’s the quote I live by. I care and I make things better.

This is a poem that has been circulating the internet for a while and it just seems so suitable for this blog.  I have no idea who wrote it but it is reputed to be by Dr Suess.  At the very least it is written in a similar style and with some humour.  I hope it puts a smile on your face!

The Lost Dr. Seuss Poem (I Love My Job)

I love my job, I love the pay!
I love it more and more each day.
I love my boss, he is the best!
I love his boss and all the rest.

I love my office and its location, I hate to have to go on vacation.
I love my furniture, drab and grey, and piles of paper that grow each day!
I think my job is really swell, there’s nothing else I love so well.
I love to work among my peers, I love their leers, and jeers, and sneers.
I love my computer and its software;
I hug it often though it won’t care. I love each program and every file.
I’d love them more if they worked a while.

I’m happy to be here. I am. I am.
I’m the happiest slave of the firm, I am.
I love this work, I live these chores.
I love the meetings with deadly bores.
I love my job – I’ll say it again – I even love those friendly men.
Those friendly men who’ve come today,
In clean white coats to take me away!!!!
