Yesterday I watched a show on TV which made me think about marketing and public relations. The show was called The Christ Files. It explored the historical Jesus and the supporting records and documentation about him. The supposition was to “test” the foundations of the faith professed by 2 billion people in the world. John Dickson the commentator (who is an Honorary Associate of the Department of Ancient History, Macquarie University, Australia) even uses some rugby guys throwing passes to demonstrate the time lag between when documents were written about Jesus after his death as compared to other well known historical figures.  As a documentary it certainly provides food for thought as he explores the evidence with a number of scholars from a range of fields. Here is a snippet.

The timing of the documentary on Good Friday was very clever. As Easter is obviously the time when Jesus is going to be in people’s minds because they may be questioning His legitimacy or reflecting on Him as the founder of their faith. If it was shown at some other time in the year, the interest would be far less.

When reflecting on timing particular marketing or public relations activities (& perhaps location of a business), we need to observe what is going on around us in relation to our product or service. eg. In Australia there is not a big push for Valentine’s Day cards in November because Valentine’s Day is on 14 Feb. As Admin Bandit software is an accounting package for volunteer treasurers of community groups, it makes sense to link in with events on the community group calendar when highlighting our support of volunteer treasurers.
